The Promise of Penge

Name:
Location: Crystal Palace, London, United Kingdom

I want to make my living as a writer and I want to write about things that have some bearing on my day-to-day living experience, like food, travel, funny observations or perhaps any observations. If you have happened upon my blog, like it, and are in a position to give me a job as a writer, please, please do at least give it some consideration.

The boys

These are them; The groovy new men in my life! Striped shirt guy is Tommy; he's the first flatemate that I met pre move-in. The middle of the three and also a striped shirt guy is Jarek, who lived here as a guest during my first week here as a resident. He is Voiteck's brother and a computer genius - he (thankfully) helped me set up my technology in the new place. The lad in red with the beautiful smile is Voiteck, the flatmate that is brother to Jarek. Voiteck has said he is going to assist me in my efforts to learn Polish. Bonus!

Out of Penge and into a Palace

Okay, so I didn't really move into a Palace exactly, but I did move into a new flat in a new part of London that is impressively nick-named Crystal Palace after a park in the neighborhood. Surprisingly, there is a building in Texas that replicates the building Crystal Palace Park was named for. You can see that my new building looks suspicious like Public Housing.
Yes, ahhhh, yep. That's because it is public housing but most of it is privately owned. It's cheap, it's community oriented, it's inhabitants are diverse in every way, it offers me an incredible view of central London, and although I have been here just one week now, it makes me happy.

I have 2 flatmates with whom I share this flat. They are fun, fabulous boys. One is a cab driver for the rich and famous and the other is a Polish immigrant who is going to give me language lessons. Lets call this move to Crystal Palace phase II of my London adventures.
Pictures of the boys to come.

The Scissor Sisters

What a thrill, what fun, what a perfect excuse to indulge in pink hair extensions. Corrie got tickets for the Scissor Sisters concert in Brighton and I must say, they can put on a show. Here Helen and I are self portraiting, waiting for it all to begin.

Corrie pushed her way to the front of the theatre and took some super-fab pictures. What a life it would be if this were my job. I do sometimes wonder if it's too late for me or if, just maybe, my time is still coming... I know, I know - but I can't help it. If being 37 doesn't inspire me to stop extending my hair in pink I don't see that it is going to kill the rock star dream.

Here we are. Helen in her floor length black coat, me in a ridiculous amount of makeup and Corrie wearing feather eyelashes and white leg warmers. We were oh, so Scissors.

It's not that nothing has happened in the last 40 days or so

It's just that there hasn't been that much of interest to report.

Thus, I am compelled to mention celebrations in common between the U.S.A. and the U.K. Can you even believe that Halloween here is as big as Halloween at home and I have pics to demonstrate the truth in what I have just asserted? Here you have me, as a Bacoon, with Lauren (Tanya's housemate), who is a cannibal prom queen (It's the Australian sense of humor) along with several other zealous Halloween fans that attended Tanya's third official house party in the last 7 months. If these pictures aren't proof enough, my window was officially egged on Tuesday, 31 October, which is good news, because I thought perhaps my building had been chosen as a random target for the neighborhood children and their fun with guns. I'm just kidding. I love Penge and I haven't once been shot at, to the best of my knowledge, in the year I have lived here. That said, I am moving to Crystal Palace on Sunday. Pics of my new gorgeous view to come.
