The South West is WOW

In government jobs in England, we public servants are lucky enough to get two days off surrounding Easter Weekend. This year, three friends and I rented a car and took a road trip down to the Cornish coast. I knew it would be beautiful, but I didn't know that England had such dramatic and breath taking coastal scenery. The weather was amazing throughout the weekend, and inspired me to wade, dogs to surf and Jesus to meditate in front of a tide's out harbor. New Quay (pronounced New Key) has the best beaches, St. Ives has the most picture perfect town and Land's End, which is the literal name of a tiny spot on the very southernmost tip of the English coast line, has the best sunsets. It was a lot of driving and I have to say, as a road tripping kind of girl, it was bliss to be hitting the highway and cruising past this level of landscape. The trip can't really be captured in photos, but I tried.

This dog did do a little successful surfing. Very fun to watch.

This is the sunset as it's seen from Land's End.

The man pictured below reminded me of Jesus; I wanted him to bring the tide back into the harbor, but I was too afraid to ask.

A fleet of sailboats just docked on a beach a few miles from Penzance.

This is me on a beach in New Quay. I had to climb rocks, big ones, with no rope to get there. It made me feel capable and tough. I love that.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of these boys. They are grown men, sleeping and smoking in a big old hole they apparently dug for their own comfort. This shot was taken on Saturday Morning, and I think it highly likely these two felt called to make their beach bed after a Friday night that inspired such a thought. They were very funny to watch and, of course, now I want to dig a sad hole in which to sleep the next time I am on a gorgeous beach with soft sand.
