The amusement just doesn't end
Like all places, the UK has cities with names that are fun and funny. I have had Sandwich and Deal on my list of places to see for near enough two years now and a few weekends ago I finally made the trip. The very old and mysterious looking tower belongs to an equally old and mysterious looking church in historic, medieval Sandwich. There was a beautiful Quay which probably led to a beautiful beach but I didn't make it that far seaward in Sandwich. The town is apparently named for the man who discovered/invented the sandwich. I was hoping for a statute and some seriously camp tourist treats but it turns out Sandwich is a town that takes itself rather seriously.
Deal was a lovely, quaint seaside town that was well developed to look that much more quaint and picturesque. Everything cost a plenty and there was not a literal deal to be had. I bought my dad a bit of fishing tackle which I enjoyed first, because there was a small in stature boy on the beach fishing with two poles rooted securely in the sand, as you do, right next to a tackle shop where I bought one lure for 5 pounds. Yep, count em, that deal was worth 10 bucks. Wow.
It was near where I was, so I decided to also venture to the White Cliffs of Dover and got a few good shots of the castle to boot. Sure the castle had a mote back in the day. I mean, look at the place!
Another day trip blessed with cool doorways, pastel block buildings, gorgeous sunshine and gorgeous towns that offered chuckles and oohs and awes, sometimes simultaneously.
